Some users may have been unable to install cumulative updates on Windows 11 version 24H2 since May 2025. Although this issue does not affect all users, systems unable to receive updates may be exposed to security risks.
To address this, Microsoft has released a standalone configuration update—designated KB5062324—specifically intended to resolve the issue preventing the installation of cumulative updates. This update is exclusively applicable to Windows 11 version 24H2 and should not be downloaded or installed on any other version.
Once installed, the configuration update rectifies the system malfunction that caused Windows Update to cease scanning for updates. After restarting the system, users should be able to click the “Check for updates” button again, at which point the latest updates should appear and install successfully.
The current cumulative update for Windows 11 24H2 is KB5060842. Installing this update will suffice, as cumulative updates inherently include all prior patches—rendering the May updates and preview releases redundant.
For users experiencing update issues, navigate to Windows Update, enable the option to receive updates immediately, and click “Check for updates.” The system should first display configuration update KB5062324. After downloading and installing it, restart the device.
Upon reboot, reenter Windows Update, where the system should now successfully detect the cumulative update—either the latest KB5060842 or the out-of-band KB5063060. Installation of these updates will also require a system restart.
