According to an official announcement from OpenAI, the Deep Research feature in ChatGPT now supports integration with Box and Dropbox accounts. Once a user adds and authorizes their account, ChatGPT can access files stored in their cloud drive to enhance the quality and depth of research reports.
After linking their account, users may designate specific folders within Dropbox or similar platforms as data sources. ChatGPT will then include these files in its analytical process, potentially incorporating significant data into the final research output.
At present, the Deep Research capability primarily relies on information gathered from the internet. However, some users possess private datasets—such as proprietary sales figures or industry-specific intelligence—that may be hidden behind paywalls or require account authentication, rendering them inaccessible to ChatGPT. This limitation can compromise the precision of the resulting research.
Providing data directly offers another advantage: ChatGPT can tailor its reports more precisely to the user’s specific needs. The more data the user supplies, combined with thoughtful prompting, the more refined and relevant the resulting research becomes—often surpassing the insights gleaned solely from web-sourced information.
Additionally, OpenAI is preparing to introduce support for the MCP protocol, which will enable ChatGPT to connect with external applications for data retrieval. This forthcoming enhancement promises to streamline both everyday queries and the generation of in-depth research reports.
